What Health Care Plan Type Should I Buy (HMO or PPO)?

The answer to the question “What Health Care Plan should I buy?” does not have a pat answer! We wish it were that simple. The answer depends upon a number of factors relating to your age, health, Family composition, and lifestyle. The first step in the decision process is really one that is quite easy. Start with what you know! You know your current financial situation (income and assets you want to protect) and you know your family’s health history and current medical care needs. Sit down and discuss this with your family members and write down your thoughts.

The next step is for you to understand how the three Cs of principals Cost, Coverage and Control (Click Here ) affects all health care plans regardless of which particular policy you may eventually select. You will quickly see that it is not about getting the “cheapest” or “bestcoverage, but what type of policy creates the best “value” for your situation!

While we just stated that the answer to the above question is not so simply, we also realize that you came to this site looking for answers and would probably like to get a better sense of which of the most popular types of plans might be best for you. We appreciate where you are coming from and have attempted to give you some a better feel without oversimplyfying the answer so much that we may mislead you.  We posed this issue to our member Broker/agents and they came up with the novel idea of surverying existing planholders and asking them why the selected the plan they chose.  That is precisely what we did.

We polled those that have come to this site or who have worked with one of the Licensed Certified Field Broker/Agent ( Click Here) certified by our organization. The poll was taken to determine the reasons why people selected either one of the PPO or HMO variations. We simply asked them for information about their current financial situation, age, family health history, current medical care needs, and why they made the choice they did.

After analyzing the cusotmer surveys, we were pleasantly surprised that the results were quite revealing. You should also know that responses from those covered by employer group plans were not included in the survey as most people covered by an employer, union or related group plan typically have very limited choice and simply accept what is offered.  With sufficient responses a consistent pattern or profile started to emerge.  To see which profile most closely matches your situation simply select the following:

Profile of Who Buys a PPO Plan (Click Here)

Profile of Who Buys an HMO Plan (Click Here)

Please continue to search the site until you feel you are comfortable moving ahead with a decision. At that point, the best recommendation we can make would be for you to seek the support of a Licensed Certified Field Broker/Agent ( Click Here) as they will be able to advise you of the realistic options available for you and your family in the area where you live.
