Family health care coverage is purchased individually directly from a health care coverage provider or health insurance company rather than as part of a group. In contrast to group plans, the policyholder has a one-on-one relationship with the health care plan provider. The implication is that the enforcement of the contract does not have the protection or the administrative machinery that enables group health insurance to be managed on behalf of the subscriber by a group plan administrator – regarding what is allowed, payment for services and the like. Family health care coverage or health insurance is really the same as an individual health care plan. For further information select the Individual / Family button under the Types of Coverage section located on the left side of this page.
