- Self-employed
Self-employed - individuals that are self-employed or independent contractors must apply for health care coverage or health insurance plans an individual/family plan applicant. Small business plans typically require a minimum of two fulltime employees. An execption to this may be in a case where both spouses are self-employed and work in the same business. This would then meet the minimum qualificaton for a small group plan. In most cases it will probabaly be more cost effective to obtain an individual/family plan than a small group health care plan, but group may be the only option for those who might otherwise be denied health care coverage under and individual health care plan. For further information, select the Self-employed button under the Types of Coverage section located on the left side of the page.
